Steema Transformers and Electricals (U) Ltd.
Delivering Reliable Step-Up Transformers for Solar Applications and Beyond in Uganda

Steema Transformers and Electricals (U) Ltd., a leading transformer manufacturer in Uganda, has a proven track record of delivering high-quality power transformers for diverse applications. Inspired by successful projects like the step-up transformers supplied to the solar sector, Steema is committed to providing reliable and efficient solutions for Uganda’s growing energy needs.

Our step-up power transformers, similar in concept to those used in PV farms, are designed to efficiently increase voltage levels for various applications, including integration with renewable energy sources and grid connections. We offer transformers with primary voltages starting from low levels (e.g., 0.4kV, 0.6kV) and stepping up to higher distribution voltages (e.g., 11kV, 33kV).

Steema Transformers prioritizes ease of connection and robust performance. Our transformers can be equipped with various terminal configurations to suit specific requirements, including user-friendly plug-in type bushings (elbow type) for convenient cable connections on the primary side and high-quality copper bus bars for secure secondary connections. Terminals are typically mounted within secure cable boxes on the side of the tank for enhanced safety and protection.

To ensure safe and reliable operation, Steema’s power transformers can be equipped with essential monitoring devices such as oil temperature indicators (OTI) and winding temperature indicators (WTI), providing real-time temperature supervision within the oil and windings.

Understanding the increasing presence of non-linear loads, Steema designs transformers with the capability to withstand harmonic content, considering K-factor ratings based on application needs. Our designs ensure reliable operation even with a degree of harmonic distortion in the current.

At Steema, we understand the importance of customer specifications. We are flexible in accommodating specific painting requirements for the conservator and tank to align with project aesthetics or environmental considerations.

Our step-up transformers are engineered with advanced technology, utilizing high-quality materials and components sourced for their reliability and longevity, ensuring a long operational lifespan.

Addressing Abnormal Transformer Noise:
Steema's Troubleshooting Guide

If you experience unusual noise from your Steema transformer, consider the following troubleshooting steps:

  • Check the Load: Reduce the load if it is excessively high.
  • Verify Supply Voltage: Ensure the input voltage is within the transformer’s rating.
  • Inspect Grounding: Check and secure the grounding connections; replace any damaged lugs.
  • Tighten Core Clamps: Loose core laminations can cause noise; ensure they are properly tightened.
  • Contact Steema for Inspection: If the noise persists or is severe, power down the transformer and contact our service team for professional inspection and repair.
  • Examine Bushings: After power is safely disconnected, inspect bushings for cleanliness and any signs of damage or looseness.
